About the Training

The Protective + Risk Observations For Eliminating Sexual Offense Recidivism (PROFESOR) is an innovative, structured checklist designed to assist professionals in identifying and summarizing protective and risk factors for adolescents and emerging adults (ages 12–25) who have offended sexually.

The PROFESOR is designed to assist with planning and monitoring interventions that can help individuals enhance their capacity for sexual and relationship health and, ultimately, eliminate sexual recidivism.

During this session, the rationale for the development of the PROFESOR will be discussed briefly, including the limitations of popular risk-prediction tools and current research regarding the importance of protective factors.

The majority of the session will include item-by-item instructions for coding the PROFESOR, with opportunities for participants to interact with Dr. Worling using the chat window and practice applying the coding rules using numerous case examples.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this training, participants will be able to:

1. Discuss the development and rationale of the PROFESOR.
2. Summarize the limitations of existing sexual recidivism risk-prediction tools.
3. Outline the importance of protective factors in work with individuals who have offended sexually.
4. Confidently apply the PROFESOR coding rules with future clients.
